FAQs

Preston Street EntrancePreston Street EntranceFinding my way around: We recommend that first time guests enter our building through the glass doors on the Preston Street side of our building.  Usually someone will be there who can provide you assistance and directions.

Sunday Morning Fellowship: Near the Preston Street doors, there will be a table with hot coffee and a variety of breakfast items for you to enjoy before Sunday morning Bible Study.

How do most people dress on Sunday morning? People dress in a variety of styles from casual to business attire. However, your presence is more important to us than your attire.

Will I be individually recognized during the worship service as a visitor? Visitors are not asked to identify themselves during worship service.  We ask first time guests to share some information with us by filling out a card. But whether you do so or not is up to you.  If you provide us the information, we will contact you by email or a note in the mail. We do not make home visits unless requested.

What style of worship do you employ? Our worship on Sunday mornings is what most Baptists would consider traditional, with the singing of hymns and choruses being accompanied by piano and pipe organ.

How long does the worship service last? Typically a worship service will last approximately one hour.

Do you have a contemporary worship service? Not at this time.

What is the attendance at a typical worship service? Approximately 120-150.

What is your policy on receiving Communion?
Communion is usually celebrated the first Sunday of each month, and on Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve.  All believers are invited to partake in the Lord’s Supper which is served by the Deacons to the seated congregation.

What kind of church is this and why are we named Manly?

Manly Memorial Baptist Church was started in 1841, and our building has been located at the corner of Main Street and Preston Street since 1920. The church is named in memory of Dr. Charles Manly who served as the pastor from 1903 to 1914 and was known as the “most universally beloved man in Lexington.”

The people of our congregation have come together to love God and love others in his name. To that end we seek to provide opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and service. Men and women share equally in all positions of service and leadership.

Our sanctuary is equipped with a broadcast system for the hearing impaired. Please contact one of the ushers to borrow a personal receiver.
